Abstract
678,519. Hydraulic brakes. BOLSEZIAN, G., and STOP SOC. AR.L. Aug. 26, 1949 [Aug. 31, 1948], No. 22298/49. Class 103 (i). A master cylinder that actuates two separate hydraulic brake systems connected at 5 and 6 comprises a main pressure applying piston 2 of known type and also a flouting piston 7 through which passes a hollow spindle 12, one one of which projects into passage 5. As shown in the brakes released condition, fluid may pass from the reservoir 3 past piston 2 by groove 4 and past piston 7 by port 15 in spindle 12, the central space 14 and ports 13. When the piston 2 is moved to the left to apply the brakes, the systems connected to ports 5 and 6 become isolated as soon as the ports 13 pass under the gasket 17; thereafter the piston 7 acts to transfer pressure from the space between the two pistons to that connected to connection 6. If a pipe connected at 5 should fracture, resulting in loss of liquid, the spindle 12 will be forced through piston 7 until spring-lock ring 18 engages groove 19, thus locking the spindle 12 with its ports 15 under gasket 9 so that the two pistons 2 and 7 then act as one. If a pipe connected at 6 should break, the piston 7 is driven along spindle 12 until the spring ring 21 locks it by engagement with groove 22 in a position in which it is held tight against the gasket 17. Two modifications are described.
