Abstract
1,115,379. Hydraulic control circuits. WESTINGHOUSE BREMSEN-UND APPARATEBAU G. m. b. H. June 1, 1966 [June 4, 1965], No. 24347/66. Heading F1P. The centrally spring-biassed manually operated spool of an open centre valve 3, Fig. 1 for controlling supply and exhaust of hydraulic fluid to and from a double acting cylinder 2 is held in either of its operative end positions during a stroke of the cylinder 2 by admission of at least part of the exhaust fluid in say line 4 through a gap formed between an edge 25, Fig. 3, on an end 13 of the spool and an edge 26 of a recess 19 in the valve body into which line 4 leads and which is itself connected through said gap to a chamber 16 so as to act against a plunger disc 14 on the end 13 of the valve spool; the chamber 16 being connected through a restriction 18 and a line 7 to a reservoir and the recess 19 being connected through a pressure limiting valve 12 to said reservoir. The restriction 18 and limiting valve 12 normally cooperate to provide the necessary back pressure in chamber 16 to maintain the spool in an operative end position but in the event of any reduction in pressure in line 4 allows the pressure in chamber 16 to fall and the spool to be returned to its central neutral position. A further double-acting cylinder 20 controlled by a spool valve 3a may be arranged in parallel with valve 3 and cylinder 2 and is supplied by a pump 1 delivering through a common line 6 provided with a relief valve 8.
