Abstract

792,570. Thread tensioning devices. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP ONDERZOEKINGSINSTITUUT RESEARCH. Sept. 7, 1955 [Sept. 30, 1954], No. 25691/55. Class 120(2) The tension in a running yarn or thread is increased by guiding it between two cooperating toothed rollers, 1, 3, one of which, 1, is braked relative to the other in a slipping manner and with a constant resistance, an additional force being exercised on the roller 3 which is less braked or not braked in the direction of movement of the yarn or thread to cause the yarn or thread to be clamped between the leading flanks of the teeth of the roller 3 and the following tooth flanks of the roller 1. Thread 5 is passed over a guide 6 and between the teeth of the rollers 1, 3, the shaft 2 of the roller 1 being braked, preferably by a magnetic brake system. To give the required additional force the thread is wrapped over an angle #, greater than the angle a. over which it is in contact with both rollers, of the roller 3 before passing over a guide wheel 7. In a second embodiment, the additional force is provided by mechanism comprising a second toothed roller rigidly mounted on the shaft 2 co-operating with a toothed roller freely rotatable on the shaft 4 and connected to the roller 3 by a helical spring tensioned by the rotation of the roller on the shaft 4 driven by that on the shaft. It is stated that this embodiment can produce a tension 200 times that in the thread supplied to the device. Specification 750,350 and U.S.A. Specification 2,379,806 are referred to.
