Abstract

788,610. Valves. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. April 18, 1955 [June 30, 1954], No. 11085/55. Class 135. In a rotary spherical plug valve, the axis of the valve spindle 10 coincides with a diameter of the plug and the latter carries one or more grooves 9 extending part-way around its surface and co-operating with an annular seat 8. The cross-sectional area of a recess varies along its length so that the passage provided between the inlet and outlet 3, 4 of the valve varies according to the position to which the plug is turned. There will be one position of the plug in which the flow of fluid is entirely cut off. The recess may be so shaped that the flow increases linearly in correspondence with the amount the operating handle 2 is turned. The recess may vary in depth along its length, and it may be provided with rounded edges.
