Abstract

698,188. Stop valves. SCOTTS ENGINEERING (NEWPORT), Ltd. Nov. 15, 1951 [Nov. 16, 1950] No. 28010/50. Class 135 In a stop valve of the type in which the valve body contains a resilient tubular member 5 which forms the valve passage, and in which means including co-operating fixed and movable inserts are provided to close or restrict the bore of the tubular member, the valve body is divided into two parts 3, 4 along a plane at right-angles to the axis of the resilient tubular member, a fixed resilient insert 12 is disposed in the valve body at right-angles to the axis of the tubular member, and a slidably mounted stopper member 15 located on the opposite side of the tubular member to the insert 12 and in alignment with the insert is movable to compress the resilient tubular member against the insert and so control the fluid flow. The insert 12, which may be of rubber, is mounted in undercut grooves 11 in the valve body. The parts 3, 4 have flanges 7, 8 to receive the flanged ends 6 of the tubular member, and flanges 9, 10 to connect the two body parts. The stopper member 15, which carries a rubber or like facing member 20, is slipable but non-rotatable in recesses 13, 14 and is supported by a non-rotatable screwed spindle 17 co-acting with a rotatable but axially fixed screwed brush 18 on which is secured an operating handle 19.
