718,272. Manually-actuated valves. THYSSENSCHE GAS-UND WASSERWERKE GES., and VEREINIGTE ARMATUREN-GES. March 21, 1951 [March 23, 1950], No. 6784/51. Class 135 In a stop valve having a closure member slidable over seating means fixed to or formed integrally with the valve casing, spring means are disposed between an actuating member operable to open and close the valve and a wedge member to continuously act on the wedge member so that the closure member is pressed against the seating means at all times to preclude, except through the valve flow passage, the entry of foreign matter into the valve casing. As shown in Fig. 1, a closure member formed by a pair of plates b is slidable over seat members a mounted in the casing c and a wedge member l acted upon by a spring m continuously urges the plates b into sealing contact with the members a at all times. An actuating member p screwed into and out of a col!ar secured to the plates b operates the valves. As shown in Fig. 5, a rotary cylindrical plug o having a longitudinal slit and a conical bore co-operates with a wedge cone I acted upon by a spring m. A tube u passes transversely through the plug o and wedge l to form the valve passage.
