Abstract

1,145,196. Valves. AMERICAN METER CO. 30 March, 1967, No. 14673/67. Heading F2V. A control valve, suitable for use with domestic centralized fuel oil systems, has disposed between its inlet and outlet bores, 4 and 6 respectively, a transverse bore within which there is formed an annular projection 30, constituting a seat for a first valve member 32, 34 biased on to the seat by a spring 36. Downstream of the projection 30 is disposed a further seat 28 engageable by a second valve member 20 carried by, and disposed intermediate the ends of, a stem 18, the stem being carried by a diaphragm 10 which is downwardly biased by a spring 12. Upon a partial vacuum being created in the outlet, as by a burner, the diaphragm is caused, by the spring 12, to move downwardly and hence, via the stem 18, unseats valve member 32. Upon the pressure in the outlet exceeding a predetermined maximum the diaphragm moves against the force of spring 12 and valve member 32 becomes seated. Any further increase of pressure in the outlet, as due to leakage past valve 32, results in the diaphragm moving still further and valve 20 becoming seated.
