Abstract
1,204,356. Valves. ZAKLADY MECHANIKI PRECYZYJNEJ. 6 Dec., 1967 [12 Dec., 1966], No. 55544/67. Heading F2V. In a pressure reducing valve, control of fluid flow from an inlet 2 to an outlet 20 is effected by a closure member 6 which is adapted to cooperate with a seat 4 and is carried by the lower end of a piston rod 7, the upper end of the rod being formed integrally with a piston 11 and both the piston and its rod being bored to receive an auxiliary piston 16 with an annular clearance 14 left therebetween, an annular chamber 21 being defined within the piston rod and by the combination of the rod and the auxiliary piston. The piston 11, and hence the closure member 6, are biased upwardly by a spring 10, the annular clearance 14 is in constant communication with the fluid flow via a passage 18, and the chamber 21, whose crosssection is equal to that of the inlet 2, is subjected to inlet pressure via a passage 22 formed in member 6, the arrangement being such that the upper end of the auxiliary piston is held in abutment with the valve casing 12 and the disposition of the closure member 6 in relation to its seat 4 is determined by the force of spring 10 acting on the underside of piston 11 and by the force of fluid pressure acting on the upperside of the same. Rendering equal the areas of inlet 2 and chamber 21 serves to ensure that the closure member, when seated, is unaffected by pressure fluctuations upstream thereof. In an alternative arrangement, a diaphragm may be substituted for the piston.
