Abstract

1,242,888. Valves. HONEYWELL Inc. 6 Nov., 1968 [17 Nov., 1967], No. 52580/68. Heading F2V. In a flow control valve, flow between an inlet 12 and an outlet 13 is determined by the position of a main valve member 25, which position is controlled by appropriate changes of pressure in a chamber 31, an increase in such pressure being effected by placing the chamber in communication with the inlet 12 via lines 23, 36, 38 and 33, whilst a decrease in such pressure being effected by placing the chamber in communication with the outlet 13 via lines 33, 38, 37 and 32. The supply of pressure to, or the withdrawal of pressure from the chamber is controlled by two auxiliary valves, the first of which comprises a rotary, manually-operable valve member 19 which can be moved to inhibit flow from the inlet to line 23 and to chamber 17, and the second of which comprises a pivotable strip-like valve member 43 which is adapted to be moved towards either one of two seats formed by the free ends of inserts 39, 40 disposed in lines 36 and 37. The pivotable valve member is subjected to the constant bias of a spring 48 arid further, to the combined and greater force of a spring 55 and armature 54 when the latter is de-energized, the pivotable valve member being movable to its alternative position by energizing solenoid 52 and hence withdrawing the armature. As depicted in Fig. 3, the pivotable valve member is formed from a rigid strip 43 having intermediate its ends two V-shaped projections and at each of its ends two sets of tines 45, 46, a spring-retaining projection 43a being formed between the strip central portion and one of its ends. The valve member is completed by an I-shaped elastic strip 49 the head portions of which are designed to fit between the respective sets of tines and to engage the respective seats, assembly of the valve member being effected by stretching strip 49 subsequent to one of its head portions being secured between one set of tines until the other head portion can be inserted, as shown in dotted lines, between the other set of tines.
