Abstract
721,031. Valves. SMALLPIECE, C. D. P. July 16, 1953, No. 19731/53. Class 135. A fluid flow regulator comprises a tubular body 12 having a bore the central part of which is normally closed, and a rotatable sleeve 20 engaging by a screw thread 21 the exterior of the body and having an internal recess 26 adapted to connect by means of radial ports 25, 29 and one or more longitudinal peripheral grooves 28 in the body 12 the parts 13a, 13b of the bore on either side of the closed central part. The recess 26 is permanently open to the ports 25. Seals 23, 24 are provided between the ends of the sleeve 20 and the body 12. The grooves 28 which open in the threaded part of the body taper towards their upstream ends 27 so that a gradual cut off of the fluid flow is achieved. The movement of the sleeve 20 is limited by stops 31, 32. The central part of the bore is normally closed against flow in the direction A by a spring-loaded ported piston valve 14 which permits substantially uninterrupted flow in the opposite direction. The opening movement of the valve 14 is limited by a stop 34.
