846,944. Non-return valves. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Oct. 1, 1958 [Oct. 9, 1957], No. 31572/57. Class 135. A non-return valve consists of a closure member 14 urged towards a seat 13 by a spring 19 and having three longitudinal grooves 16 which increase in depth towards the end of the member remote from the seat to form flow passages that guide flowing fluid into the bore of the spring. The spring is received in a recess in the end of the closure member, opening movement of which is limited by a shoulder 20. The valve seat and/or the closure member may have resilient inserts, and the closure surfaces may be conical instead of flat.
