Abstract

621,237. Closure members. GLENFIELD & KENNEDY, Ltd., and MONTGOMERIE, J. B. Feb. 10, 1947, Nos. 3805/47 and 3664/48. [Class 135] A high-pressure valve has a valve body with two or more passages, the axes of which are coplanar, and a conical plug of which the axis is at right angles to the axes of the passages, the plug controlling ports and having a transverse passage which is open to the inlet pressure when the valve is closed and the opposite walls of which have equal projected areas. The body 1 of a two-way valve, Fig. 3, has inlet and outlet passages 2 and 3 and a frusto-conical hole in between, fitted with a tapered bush 10 with ports 6, 6A and 7 communicating with the passages. The bush 10 accommodates a rotatable tapered plug 11 having a transverse passage 12. An arrangement of parts for axial movement of the plug 11 is shown in Fig. 7. The rotatable type of plug may be applied to multiple-way valves, Fig. 9, showing a fourway valve with an inlet 2 and outlets 3, 4 and 5.
