Abstract
780,600. Cooling. PORSCHE, F. Dec. 1, 1954 [Feb. 27, 1954], No. 34809/54. Class 7(2) In an air-cooled engine in which the cooling air is drawn through a jacket 12 around each cylinder 1 and head 3 by the ejector effect of the exhaust gases flowing from a nozzle 11, the cross-sectional area available for the flow of cooling air in a mixing tube 14 surrounding the ejector 11 and connected to the jacket 12 is substantially equal to the free flow area available for the passage of air around the cylinder and head in each of a series of cross-sectional planes parallel to the cylinder axis. The cross-sectional area of the mixing tube 14, less the cross-- sectional area of the nozzle 11 at the discharge end thereof is 0.8-1.1 times the cross-sectional area for the. cooling air between the jacket 12, cylinder and cylinder head in the plane of the vertical cylinder axis. The mixing tube 14 may have a circular or other configuration.
