655,761. Cooling exhaust. DE LUXE PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1948, No. 1585. Convention date, Oct 21, 1944. [Class 7(ii)] Means for admitting air to cool the exhaust and to steady its flow, comprise a tube 16, 17 and 18, ten times as long as its diameter, which is at one end connected to the exhaust manifold 10, and at the other end has a light non-return valve 21 to admit air. The tube 16, 17, 18 tapers, preferably in steps as shown, and a chamber 50 connected by an orifice 51 smoothes out pulsations. A twisted sheet-metal plate 60 cools the exhaust and heats the air. In a modification, the tube 16 opens into the closed end of a surrounding tube leading to the non-return valve, which is horizontal and surrounded by a casing containing baffles past which the air flows.
