Abstract

699,554. Cooling; inlet and exhaust passages. PORSCHE KONSTRUKTIONEN GES. Oct. 22, 1951, [Jan. 2, 1951], No. 24617/51. Class 7 (ii) In a cylinder head for air-cooled internal combustion engines with a cooling channel 3 comprising an external recess open along its entire length to the engine exterior through the upper surface of the cylinder head and extending between the valve guides 4, 5, the inlet duct 8 is arranged substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder head whilst the exhaust duct 9 is arranged substantially perpendicular to the inlet duct 8 under the cooling channel 3. The cooling air is blown in the direction of the arrow R towards the cylinder head where it is divided into a central and two lateral streams by two vertical walls 1 and 2, which between them define the channel 3. The walls diverge in the manner of a nozzle as they pass between the valve guides 4 and 5 after which they converge. The channel 3 is arranged above the combustion chamber; vertical cooling ribs 7, 10 and 12 are located in. channel 3, the ribs 7, 10 being in line with a plane Y-Y, whilst ribs 12 are parallel to the converging walls of the passage 3 downstream of the valve guides. The exhaust duct 9 is arranged obliquely to the plane Y-Y.
