Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool exhaust valve effectively by forming in cylinder head a guide passage for communicating intake port and exhaust port with each other, and inducing a portion of intake air to the exhaust valve through the guide passage when valve closing period of the intake valve and that of the exhaust valve are overlapped. CONSTITUTION:Guide passage 6 in the form of a groove is formed in cylinder head 1 between intake portion 2 opened and closed by intake valve 4 and exhaust port 3 opened and closed by exhaust valve 5. Through provision of such a guide passage 6, intake air is blown off to exhaust port 3 as shown by arrow P in the drawing after being deflected by flared portion 41 of intake valve 4, when valve closing period of intake valve 4 and that of exhaust valve 5 are overlapped, so that exhaust valve 5 can be cooled effectively.
