Abstract

449,115. Ejecting exhaust. HURUM, F., 1036, Drammensveien, Oslo, Norway. June 24, 1935, No. 18049. Convention date, June 23, 1934. [Class 7 (ii)] In a multicylinder engine, in which each cylinder has two exhaust channels 7, 8, the valve timing is such that the exhaust flow through one channel produces an ejector effect on the exhaust flow through the other. The channels are fed by valves 5, 4, or groups of simultaneously operated valves, and if ignition in cylinder 1 precedes ignition in cylinder 2, the last-opened valve 4 in cylinder 1 will open simultaneously with the first-opened valve 5 in cylinder 2 to produce this effect. The exhaust channels 8 lead tangentially into an annular collector 9 which may form the engine fairing of an aircraft ; increased suction is thus produced by the cooling of the gases therein.
