Abstract
553,965. Two-stroke engine. SAMMONS, H., KADENACY, M., and ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., Sir W. G. Dec. 5, 1941, No. 15722. Drawings to Specification. [Class 7 (ii)] Relates to a method of supercharging twostroke engines of the kind in which the entry of the charge is facilitated by suction due to the mass exit of the exhaust gases from the cylinder, for example as described in Specifications 431,856 and 473,684. The engine is supercharged by admitting the charge in two portions, the first being trapped in a chamber surrounding piston-controlled inlet ports at a pressure somewhat above atmospheric before being admitted to the cylinder, while at a later and separate period the second portion passes from the blower or compressor reservoir to the cylinder. The arrangement described is the same as in Specification 553,978.
