Abstract

675,582. Combustion chambers. ITURBE Y BASABE, N. July 29,1949 [May 10, 1949], No. 20023/49. Classes 7(ii) and 7(iii) In a two-stroke engine a projection 7 on the piston 9 enters the mouth 5 of a combustion chamber 4, whereby the air passing around the projection 7 and through passages 12 therein produces turbulence in the chamber 4, the projection having a depression shaped so as to form with the combustion chamber a heart-shaped combustion space. The exhaust valve 1 is situated in the combustion chamber and has a projection which helps to define the heartshape. A semi-circular recess 11 deflects the gases emerging from the combustion chamber after ignition against the cylinder head. The inlet ports 6 are arranged tangentially to produce swirling in the cylinder.
