Abstract

The cylinder head is provided with a wedge shaped combustion chamber (4) communicating with the intake port (5) via the inlet valve (6). The spark plug (7) extends into the blunt end of the combustion chamber. The piston crown has a recess (8) corresponding in shape to the cylinder head combustion chamber with the respective blunt ends (4a, 8a) opposite to each other and the opposite surfaces parallel. The two parallel surfaces form a compression zone at piston top dead centre. The inlet valve is set at an angle to the cylinder axis, which causes the incoming gases to flow to one side of the combustion chamber. A turbulent flow follows to form a gas ring which benefits ignition when an exhaust feed back system is employed.
