Abstract

778,208. Mist prevention in alkaline electrolytic baths. DEHYDAG DEUTSCHE HYDRIERWERKE GES. March 5, 1954 [March 6, 1953], No. 6432/54. Class 41. To prevent mist formation in alkaline baths of pH not less than 13 for the electrolytic deposition or removal of metal layers, there is added to the bath 0.01 to 0.2 gms./litre of a soluble or dispersible ethylene oxide addition product which has been esterified with a polybasic mineral acid, e.g. phosphoric or sulphuric acid, and then neutralized. Typically to a caustic soda dechroming bath there is added a condensate of 1 mole oleyl alcohol and 10 moles ethylene oxide which is sulphated with 0.2 mole sulphuric acid. The bath temperature may be 50‹ C. and the current density 600 amps./sq. dm. Reference is made also to an alkaline lead plating bath containing per litre 87. gms. lead acetate, 200 gms. sodium hydroxide, and 3 to 10 gms. sandarac resin.
