Abstract
617,689. Electrodeposition of nickel. MOND NICKEL CO., Ltd. Oct. 16, 1946, No. 30849. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1945. [Class 41] In the electrodeposition of nickel on a nickel surface, e.g. a nickel starting sheet or a previous nickel plating, good bonding is promoted by preliminary anodic treatment of the surface in an aqueous bath containing at least 10 grams per litre and preferably from 90 to 200 grams/ litre of sulphuric acid and from 0.5 to 30 grams/ litre and preferably from 2 to 10 grams/litre of cupric ions, e.g. in the form of copper sulphate with a current density not exceeding 25 and preferably not less than 10 amps./ft.<2> for a period of at least two minutes. The surface is rinsed in water and the deposition effected before the formation thereon of any passive film. The treatment may be interrupted from time to time and compressed air blown through the bath during the interrupting to redissolve the sponge copper deposited at the cathode. The bath is preferably treated for the recovery of nickel when the nickel concentration reaches 50 grams/litre.
