Abstract
1285256 Zinc plating bath HENKEL & CIE GmbH 9 Oct 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 48044/70 Heading C7B An acid (e.g. pH 3-5) lustrous Zn electroplating bath comprises a Zn salt, optionally a further conducting salt with conventional lustring and/or wetting agent, and a thiourea derivative of the formula:- R-NH-CS-NR 1 R 2 , in which R is a saturated aliphatic C 6-22 hydrocarbon, a mono- or polynuclear (aliphatic or aromatic substituted) aryl, an alkylaryl or a cycloaliphatic residue; R 1 is a straight or branched chain hydroxy C 2-6 alkyl residue, preferably interrupted by ether (groups) e. g. (hydroxyethoxy) -ethyl or propyl-; and R 2 is H or R 1 . The bath may contain ZnCl 2 , NH 4 Cl with or without AlCl 3 , the thiourea derivative, and an addition product of ethylene oxide to a higher M. W. aliphatic (or alkyl) e. g. (iso) nonyl alcohol or phenol as wetting agent; or ZnSO 4 , NH 4 Cl and H 3 BO 3 or Al 2 (SO 4 ) 2 and Na acetate, the thiourea derivative, and a fatty alcohol (ether) sulphate or polyalkylene glycol as wetting agent. A current density of 0À5-8 A/dm<SP>2</SP> may be used.
