Abstract
611,483. Electrodeposition of nickel. UDYLITE CORPORATION. May 2, 1946, No. 13288. Convention date, July 7, 1945. [Class 41] Baths of aqueous acid nickel solutions contain alpha or beta unsaturated aliphatic or araliphatic sulphonic acids as addition agents at concentrations from 0.5 gms./litre to saturation. Vinyl sulphonic acid and allyl sulphonic acids and their halogen derivatives are given as examples, the nickel solution comprising combinations of the following nickel salts: chloride, sulphate, sulphamate, fluoborate. Bath may also contain aryl-sulphonamide, aryl-sulphonimide, aryl-sulphonic acid or an aryl-sulphone. It is also stated that the presence of other brighteners, e.g. salts of zinc cadmium mercury and thallium at concentrations of about 0.1 to 0.5 gm./litre is without detriment to the effect of the main addition agent. Examples are given of baths containing from 75 to 300 gms./litre of crystalline nickel sulphate or from 45 to 300 gms./litre of crystalline nickel chloride to which boric acid, formic acid, nickel fluoride or nickel citrate may be added as a buffer.
