503,956. Electrodeposition of nickel. FIFE, J. G. (Deutsche Goldund Silber-Scheidcanstalt vorm. Roessler) Sept. 11, 1937, No. 24806. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 2, 1938.] [Class 41] A plating-bath for the electrolytic production of soft, ductile and strongly adhering coatings of nickel, on metals such as zinc, aluminium and lead, contains nickel sulphate, chloride ions, preferably in the form of ammonium chloride, sulphite ions, preferably in the form of an alkali bisulphite, and so much ammonia that the pH value is between 8 and 10, preferably between 8 and 9À2. The bath may contain in addition weak organic or inorganic acids or their salts, e.g. citric acid or boric acid, and ions of pyrophosphoric acid, e.g. as sodium pyrophosphate. The separation of the nickel in a lustrous state may be promoted by the addition of high molecular or colloidal materials, such as heliotropin or polyvinyl alcohol. Examples are given.
