Abstract

775,351. Lamp caps and holders. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 15, 1954 [Sept. 15, 1953], No. 26773/54. Class 38(1). A holder arrangement for a tubular discharge lamp 1 with bases constructed as in the first embodiment described in Specification 775,350 comprises holders 4, 5 the former having. spring plunger contacts 36, 37 which project through a slot 42 in a partition 38 in an insulating plunger 7 slidable in an insulating housing 24, and provided with a cavity shaped to co-operate with an embossment 11 on the lamp base. In order to improve contact pressure between contacts 36, 37 and the inleads 13, 14, the back surface 44 of the partition-38 is slanted so that when the lamp is removed contacts 36, 37 diverge from each other as seen in the right-hand side of the Figure. A partition 39 extends through a slot in partition 38 to separate the contacts, and connection is made through the springs and terminal leads secured to terminal plates. The other holder 5 is similar to holder 4, but a stationary plug 49 replaces the plunger and is wedged in position by spacers 51, 52. The lamp is inserted by first fitting one end into holder 4 and then pushing the plunger and contacts back against the springs 27, 28. Until the other end of the lamp can be inserted into holder 5.
