Abstract

686,368. Lamp-holders. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 16, 1951 [July 31, 1950], No. 16823/51. Class 38 (i). A holder for one or more discharge lamps each having a contact prong at each end comprises a casing 9 with a removable front cover 15 apertured to locate, within the casing, one or more cylindrical insulating contact holders 10, Fig. 1, each containing an insulating piston 11 having limited sliding movement therein. The piston is backed by a spring 12 engaging a contact plate 7 carried by the piston, the spring serving as a connection between plate 7 and a bar 13 carried by an insulating block 26. Said block carries a terminal 14, Fig. 3, for each bar 13, access to the terminals being obtained through holes 40 in an insulating strip 31 slidable longitudinally between the top 30 of the casing 9 and the block. The strip has ears 41 which co-operate with key-hole mounting slots 42 in the casing, the arrangement being such that said slots 42 are uncovered to enable the holder to be mounted on a support only when the strip 31 is in such a position that it covers the terminals 14.
