Abstract
544,562. Lamp-holders. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1940, Nos. 17843 and 17844. Convention dates, Dec. 18, 1939, and March 6, 1940. [Class 38 (i)] A holder for a double-ended discharge lamp incorporates a socket to receive a removable switch or other circuit element. The lamp 15 fits into the face of an upright 18 as described in Specification 526,713 a second holder element 20 being attached to the upright 18 to form an L-shaped body fitted into the housing 10. A socket 23 in the element 20 receives the casing 24 containing a switch and condenser unit such as described in Specification 541,925, [Group XXXVII], which is connected by means of a pair of contacts on its base engaging a pair of arcuate keyhole slots and associated spring strips in the bottom of the socket. These strips are connected to terminals recessed into the element 20 and one terminal plate is engaged by a screw 72 that connects it to a contact 181 of the lamp-holder. A similar socket may be provided at the other end of the housing 10 to receive the condenser if this is separately mounted. The casing 24 projects through a hole 27 in the housing 10 sufficiently to allow insertion and removal but is clear of the lamp 15 which conceals it. A choke coil may be mounted in the housing 10.
