[Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (iii).] An electric lamp is so mounted in a vanity or like case as to be capable of being raised in position to complete the circuit and illuminate the face of the user on the case being opened. As shown, the lamp is disposed in a recess a<2> in a fitting c and is carried in a holder b pivotally mounted in a U-shaped fitting j under the influence of a flat spring b<1> tending to raise it from the position shown in Fig. 2 when this is permitted by the raising of the lid a<1>. The lamp derives current from a dry battery e the terminals of which are engaged by spring arms connected to strips f<1>, f<2>, which contact respectively with the fitting in which the lamp-holder is mounted and, on the lamp being raised, with a screw g projecting from the holder and in contact with the central terminal of the lamp. The means for raising the lamp into position may alternatively comprise a member acting on a cam-shaped contact on the lamp-holder, or a toothed quadrant engaging a pinion. The lamp may be disposed behind a transparent wall or partition.
