[Class 39 (ii).] In an electric battery lamp the battery contacts 4, 5 are so arranged that, in the "off" position of the lamp, they are out of contact with both terminals of the incandescent bulb 7. In the example the lamp bulb 7 is screwed into a metal socket 6 which is adapted to be pushed into an apertured bulb support 2 mounted on the battery casing 1, the circuit being completed by the bottom edge of the socket 6 bearing upon a contact strip 4 connected to one pole of the battery, while the centre contact of the bulb extends through a gap in the strip 4 and makes contact with either the zinc bottom 5 of the battery or a spring strip connected thereto. The socket 6 may be screwed into the support 3 or secured therein by a bayonet joint. In a modification, Fig. 4, the bulb 7 screws directly into a support 2 secured to the top or lid of the casing 1, the contact strip 4 from one pole of the battery being arranged to bear upon the metal cap of the bulb when the latter is screwed home, while the central contact of the bulb bears upon the zinc bottom of the battery. The contact strip 4 is embedded between insulating layers 10, 11.
