[Class 39 (ii)] In electric-battery lamps of the kind wherein a switching-member in the form of a spring contact on the underside of a base is moved to the operative position to close the circuit when the lamp is lifted from a table or other support, and is held in an inoperative position by the table &c. when the lamp stands thereon, a flexible metal strip 14 secured at one end to the underside of the battery casing by a screw 15 is connected to the metal lamp-socket 5 by a strip 16, its other end being normally in contact with a metal plate 11 connected to the bottom pole of the battery. A stud 17 attached near to the end of the strip 14 projects below the lower surface of the lamp base, so that when the latter is placed upon a table the strip 14 is lifted from the plate 11 and the circuit is broken. A separate switch which maintains the circuit closed in any position of the lamp comprises a spring strip 18 which is also connected to the screw 15 and can be moved downwardly at its other end into contact with the plate 11 by means of a cam 19 on a projecting finger 20. The plate 11 is secured in position by nuts 12 on studs 10, and may be in direct contact with the bottom of the battery or, as shown, a spring 13 may be interposed. The bulb 4 is enclosed by a translucent shade 7 provided with a flanged edge which is clamped between an inturned flange 8 on the upper end of the casing and the rim of the metal socket 5, this latter being provided with resilient fingers 6 which engage the inner wall of the insulating battery-case 1.
