Abstract
711,817. Electric battery lamps. DEHN, S. G. (Hyman, H.). Dec. 28, 1951, No. 30331/51. Class 39 (2) An electric battery lamp, comprising a casing 24 provided with a head 26 containing a bulb 36 is provided with an auxiliary lamp carried by a tubular standard or sleeve 122 that is pivoted at one end to the head of the casing, the bulb 138 of the auxiliary lamp being mounted in a lamp holder which is normally seated in the end of the sleeve 122 and can be withdrawn to an extended position, as shown in Fig. 8, connection to the centre contact of the bulb being maintained by a flexible insulated lead 144 extending within the sleeve and through a short flexible metallic conduit 216. The inner end of the conduit 216 is mounted in a cup 218 formed with resilient fingers 224 whereby the cup is retained frictionally in any intermediate position within the sleeve 122. A sliding switch 80 on the casing is associated with a push button for flashing, and the particular lamp which is lighted is determined by a change-over switch dependent on the position of the sleeve 122 relative to the lamp casing. The sleeve 122 is pivoted between a pair of lugs near the upper end of the casing, the end of the sleeve being bifurcated and the side parts thereof flattened to receive between them the change-over switching device which is mounted on the pivot 134 supporting the sleeve. The change-over device comprises an insulating disc 148 partially housed within a metal cup 172, and an insulating disc 146 partially housed within a metal cup 158, the latter having a slot 168 through which projects a cam lug 156 on the disc 146. A metal tab 184 on the cup 172 is connected by the flexible lead 144 to the centre contact of the auxiliary bulb 138. The arrangement, Fig. 12, is such that when the sleeve 122 is in its inner position the cam lug 156 bears upon a conducting strip 189 which presses a contact strip 116 against the reflector 34 of the main bulb 36, so that the circuit of that bulb can then be controlled by the sliding switch 80 on the casing. When, however, the sleeve 122 is swung outwards from the casing the cam portion 156 is moved to an inoperative position, and the adjacent metal cup 172 is engaged by the tip 196 of a conducting strip 202 which has its base connected permanently to the central terminal of the uppermost battery 60. The relative arrangement of the cam 156 is such that when the sleeve 122 is brought towards the lamp casing 24 the tip of conducting strip 202 is moved away from the metal cup 172 of the change-over switch, thereby changing to the main bulb circuit simultaneously with the cam 156 acting on the strips 189 and 116 to close that part of the main bulb circuit.
