Class 39(ii) In an electric torch comprising a metal casing 11 with a switch mounted thereon, a contact compression spring 20 which holds a battery contact against the centre contact of a bulb 16 is insulated throughout its length, being bared only at its ends 21 and 25, which make contact with the bottom of the battery and the movable contact 27 of the switch respectively. The bare end 25 of the spring is held by an offset portion of an insulated plate 24 which is secured on the inner wall of the torch casing immediately behind a slot 30 in the latter and in alignment with the end of the resilient contact-making member 27 of a switch that is actuated alternatively by a press-button 28 or a slide 29 in known manner. The insulation upon the spring 20 and its extension 23 may be either in the form of an enamel or like coating, or a conventional sleeving of rubber or other insulation. The contact spring may be in the form of an insulated spring strip with bared ends, for use with cells arranged in an inverted position relative to that shown. The bottom of the casing is closed by spinning its edge over a cap 12, and the upper end is screwthreaded to receive a metal ring 17 into which the lamp cap is screwed. A flared head 13 carrying a reflector 14 and front lens is provided with an inclined slot which receives a fixed pin on the casing to effect longitudinal movement for focussing by rotation of the head, in known manner.
