Abstract

774,386. Battery lamps; cycle lamps- BLUEMEL BROS., Ltd. Dec. 31,1954 [Dec.. 31, 1953], No. 36263/53. Classes 39(2) and 75(4) An electric battery lamp designed more particularly as a cycle lamp and adaptable for current supply by a cycle driven dynamo, comprises a body or casing 10,. with a relatively rotatable lens 20 mounted upon it, a switch contact being carried by the lens so that in one rotational position it engages a switch contact carried' on the casing to complete the bulb circuit, and in another position the circuit is broken. In the example the lens 20 is made of red transparent or translucent material of domed configuration and with a peripheral flange 21 whereby it is held in position upon the open end of an insulating casing 10 by a screw-threaded ring 11 arranged to permit relative rotation of the lens. The underside of the lens flange 21 is provided with two diametrically opposite recesses 22 each with a pair of parallel edges 23 arranged to form abutments for parallel edges 24 formed on a contact plate 25. The parts of the contact. plate between the edges 24 are upturned to form ears 26 which project into the hollow interior of the lens and engage the adjacent interior surface of the latter, the two remaining opposite edges of the plate 25 being recessed at 27 to provide contact extensions 28 which have a central crimp 29. The plate 25 is also apertured centrally to receive a socket 30 for a screwthreaded bulb 31. When the lens is rotated the contact extensions 28 ride upon the open edge of the casing 10 which is provided with four recesses 16-19 located 90 degrees apart and arranged to receive the crimps 29 on the contact extensions, one recess-16 being adjacent to a similar recess 15 in the end of a metal contact strip 12 secured against the inside wall of the casing 10 and connected at its inner end to a helical spring 13 abutting against the bottom of the battery 14. A short metal strip 3 with a recessed edge is secured adjacent to the recess 18 in the casing to prevent wear of the latter when the crimp 29 is entered into it in the "off" position of the switch. A pair of diametrically opposed ears 33 formed on the lens facilitate its rotation for switching purposes. A peripheral recess is provided around the casing 10 to receive a clamping-ring 37 to which a clamp may be attached for securing the lamp to a cycle frame.
