[Class 39 (ii)] A hand lamp comprises a battery receptacle 1 which is readily detachable, e.g. by screwing, from a casing 3 for the lamp, a lamp socket which is located on the casing 3 and consists of a tubular member passing through an insulating disc 5 and provided with an extension 7, forming a contact cooperating with a movable switch arm 10 in the receptacle 1, and a contact 8 secured, e.g. by riveting, to the disc so as to extend across an opening therein to form a contact for the lamp and for a pole of the battery. The receptacle 1 of steel is provided with a screwed cap 2 and a screwed collar 13 provided with a bevelled slot through which the button 12 of the phosphor bronze arm 10 is accessible ; the collar may be rotated to close the switch. The casing 3 is provided with a shoulder for holding a lens 6, a reflector 4 secured between the lens and the disc and an insulating sleeve 5<a>. The extension 7 may consist of a bent strip or a cupped disc. To produce a narrow beam the reflector may be omitted or arranged to produce an image at, or close to, the filament.
