Abstract
413,562. Discharge lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Helmbright, H. H. ; 2542, Queenstown Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, U.S.A.) Dec. 6, 1933, No. 34330. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] A device for indicating the failure of electric incandescent lamps and forming part of the lamp or its sockets, or an adapter therefor, comprises a gaseous discharge lamp mounted within an annular member provided with apertures through which the lamp is visible, a resistance carried by the annular member being connected in series with the discharge lamp across the contacts of the incandescent lamp to which the device is applied. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the gaseous discharge lamp 12, such as a neon lamp, is mounted within a transverse opening 10 in an insulating ring 8 surrounding the lower part 2 of a metal adapter socket 1, a resistance 11 being mounted within a parallel opening 9. The resistance and discharge lamp, together with conductors 16-18 which connect them in series across the adapter socket 1 and centre contact 6, may be secured in position by a sealing- compound 13. The lamp 12 is visible through openings 14, 15 provided in the insulating-ring 8. The inner centre contact plate of the adapter is connected to the outer centre contact 7 by a screw 5 passing through, and securing, two insulating members 4, 4<a> at the upper end of the socket 1.
