Abstract
536,423. Umbrellas etc.; electric battery lamps. KAUFMAN, A. D. Nov. 10, 1939, No. 29825. Divided out of 536,373. [Class 134] [Also in Group XI] in walking-sticks of the type provided with an electric lamp housed in a hollow part of the stock and adapted to shine through an opening therein, the opening is provided with a cover which can be closed or shut at will and, in the opening movement may close the switch of the lamp. As shown the lamp 3 is carried in a holder 9 disposed in the hollow part 2 of the stock so as to be opposite the opening 4. A curved sliding shutter 11 is mounted in the opening and may carry a reflector 19. The holder is in connection with one terminal of the lamp, and is connected by a strip 12 to a push button 6 at the upper end of the stick. The other terminal of the lamp connects with a stud 10 in the bottom of the holder and through it with the central stud 11 on the battery 5, whose other terminal is connected through the spring 15, and strip 14 with a contact plate 13 on the block 16 carried by the handle, and detachably held in the hollow stock by a screw. In a modification, the hollow stock is of metal and connected to the outer terminal of the battery. The holder is insulated from the stock and is provided with a tab which is put in connection with the stock to complete the electric circuit by a projection on the sliding shutter. In a further modification, the hollow stock is made in two telescoping parts which when extended uncover an opening for' the passage of light and simultaneously closes the lamp switch.
