Abstract

613,895. Lamp-holders. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 26, 1946, No. 22364. Convention date, July 28, 1945. [Class 38 (i)] A holder for a fluorescent lamp comprises a recess 29 in which are spaced fixed contacts 30 to one of which is secured a flexible blade contact 33 to engage the lamp pin 16 which can be ejected by a lever 5. In the holder shown, two contacts 33 are spaced on the opposite sides in the recess 29 which receives the end of the lamp so that the pin 16 bridges the contacts to close the circuit in the primary of an autotransformer, Fig. 8 (not shown). An insulating plate 34 in the recess prevents the contacts from being exposed and is apertured to admit the lamp pin. The insulated lever 5, pivoted on a bracket 49 secured to the holder, is provided with a groove on tts curved inner face 50 preventing the lamp slipping. In a modification (Figs. 9 to 12, not shown), the lever carries a conducting tip which is caused by an inserted lamp pin to defect a spring strip attached to one holder contact to make the circuit at the other holder contact. The lamp pin is urged between the holder contacts by a resilient contact acting on the other pin of the lamp. This contact, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a conductive button on a spring-actuated disc which slides in a hollow cylindrical holder provided with a flange to limit the disc's movement. The spring is connected to the button at one end and to a terminal plate at the other.
