Abstract
372,300. Electric battery lamps. DURA CO., 1336, W. Bancroft Street, Toledo, Ohio, U.S.A. Feb. 3, 1931, No. 3476. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1930. [Class 39 (ii).] An electric battery lamp is provided with a switch which comprises a movable contact element and a stationary contact having spaced contact faces arranged so that the movable contact can be brought into engagement with either of the stationary contact faces to close the lamp circuit, or to an intermediate position to open the circuit. The example shows a battery lamp comprising a tubular standard 2 screwed within a metal base 1 provided on its underside with a projecting switching- member 29 which causes the circuit to be opened when the lamp is stood upon a table or other support. The casing contains two batteries, of which the lower bears upon a helical spring 11 supported upon an insulating- washer 12 which is secured upon an intermediate metal plate 13 by upwardly extending tongues 14 on the latter. The stationary contact 19 has a metal base 21 which is secured to the insulating washer 12 by tongues 22, and upwardly extending resilient fingers 23 formed with arcuate portions 24 at their upper ends. Tongues 221 on the base 21 of the stationary contact engage and clamp the lower convolution of the spring 11. The movable contact comprises a shouldered metal pin 28 with a head 29 at its lower end, and at its upper end a metal washer 25 which is riveted in position and arranged to bear normally upon the base 21 of the stationary contact under the action of a coil spring 30 held in compression between the underside of the plate 13 and a metal washer 26 spaced from the washer 25 by an insulating-sleeve 27. In the lower position of the movable contact the circuit is made through the spring 11 and base 21 of the fixed contact to the metal washer 25, pin 28 and washer 26, then through the coil spring 30 and plate 13 in contact therewith, the latter being formed with downwardly-extending tongues 15 engaging within slits in a plate 16 riveted to the metal base 1. The metal cap of the lamp-bulb 9 is connected to the tubular casing 2 by a sheet-metal bulb socket 8 which fits within the upper end of the casing and abuts against a flange 6 on the dome 3, which is preferably made of glass. The lamp may be stood upon a support and the illumination maintained by pushing the member 29 in manually so that the washer 25 engages the upper contact faces formed by the arcuate fingers 24.
