[Class 39 (ii).] In a miner's or like lamp operated by a battery having rigid terminals a and in which a glass cover g disposed over the lamp-bulb is clamped by a ring e to a member d secured to the battery casing, a contact block h for connecting the lamp holder v to the battery terminals is mounted within the ring e on springs t, Fig. 2, which do not form part of the electrical circuit. The contact block h, which is of insulating material such as ebonite, is formed with a central boss o, adapted to extend upwardly through an aperture in a radial flange f of the ring e and has arcuate contacts r<1>, r<2>, r<3> embedded in its lower face. Contacts r<1>, r<2> engage the battery terminals, the contact r<3 >merely providing a wearing surface for the terminals. The contact r<2> extends inwardly to the centre of the block h to contact with a spring p which forms the central contact for the lamp-bulb. The central portion of contact r<2> may be reinforced by a boss j formed on the lower face of the block h. The springs tare secured in radial grooves l in the block hand bear against the flange f of the ring e. The lamp-holder v is fixed to the boss o by screws x, y and is formed with a flanged base which overlaps the edge of the aperture in the flange f of the ring e, thereby retaining the contact block h within the ring e. An insulating washer w is inserted between the base of the holder v and the boss o. The fixing screw x engages an inward extension of the contact r<1> and connects the lamp-holder to one battery terminal. To prevent rotation of the contact block h relative to the ring e a projection on the flange f may engage a recess in the boss o, or vice versa.
