[Class 39 (ii)] In a portable electric-battery lamp, more particularly a miner's safety lamp, of the kind comprising a battery casing surmounted by a glass or closure for a lamp bulb, with a bail or like member for carrying purposes, the battery casing b, is made of ebonite or like material and tapers outwardly from its bottom end up to its top end which is formed with a flange b<1> <1>, so that a jointing-ring c of steel or other material may be brought up into engagement with the flange and held in position upon the casing by a screw-threaded locking-ring d, the jointing- ring c being adapted for connection to a lamp housing h furnished with a handle i. As shown, the ring c is grooved along its periphery to co-operate with bayonet-joint pins g on the housing h. The lid e of the battery casing may be held in position by providing it with a peripheral flange which is located between the ring d and the top of the casing. Solid terminals n on the battery project through apertures in the lid e into engagement with spring-pressed plunger terminals l which are connected to the centre and outer contact respectively of the lamp socket by flexible leads of braided copper, the springs o within the plungers serving only to apply pressure and not to carry current. The plunger terminals l are located within a moulded member m which may be made in two parts. An annular ring may be moulded around the outer circumference of the battery lid e to prevent the electrolyte from coming into contact with the jointing-ring c. Unauthorized removal of the lamp housing may be prevented by the provision of either a magnetic or lead rivet lock.
