Holders.-A screwed socket comprises a switching device which is adapted to make or break the circuit by screwing or unscrewing a lamp into or out of the socket. In the example shown, contacts 23, 24, 25, Fig. 3, are carried by a movable member 6 and, on insertion of a lamp, are adapted to engage, respectively, contacts 9, 10, 11, Fig. 2, carried bv a fixed member 5. A contact sleeve 13, Fig. 1, and the member 5 are clamped between insulating parts 1, 2 of the casing in such a manner that the sleeve is connected to the contact 11 through a strip 12. The contacts 23, 25, are interconnected by means of a strip 27 while a strip 29 connects the contact 24 with the central lamp contact 30. Relative rotation of the fixed and movable members is restricted bv the provision of interfitting projections 16, 17, 18 and recesses 20, 21, 22. The supply leads are connected to contacts 9, 10 through the medium of terminals 7, 8. On removal of a lamp the circuit is broken at three points and accordingly the distance between any two engaging contacts may be reduced e.g. to 3 millimetres. The member 5 may be formed integral with the casing and is separated normally from the movable member by a spring 31.
