Abstract

507,549. Two-part couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 30, 1938, No. 37870. Convention date, Sept. 12. [Class 38 (i)] A double-ended lamp 1 having a pair of contact pins 7, 7<SP>1</SP> on the cap 6 is mounted in a holder having an annular groove 9 and a diametral groove 10, the pins being inserted in the groove 10 and then, by rotating the lamp, moved round the groove 9 into engagement with spring contacts 11, 11<SP>1</SP> connected to the supply. In order to guard against the pins 7, 71 being made live by insertion of the other end cap first, the cap 6 may be fitted with a switch to bridge the lead-in terminals to the pins only after the lamp has been inserted and rotated. The switch is actuated by a central elongated projection that enters the groove 10 so as to be turned relatively to the cap 6 when the lamp is rotated, Another form of cap having an additional central contact may be used if the holder has a spring contact lying in the groove 10, or if the holder has a lateral spring contact the cap may have a conductive sleeve.
