Abstract

771,757. Knitting-machines. COTTON, Ltd., W. Sept. 8,1954 [Aug. 24, 1953], No. 23319/53. Class 74 (2). A cross-bar 9b supported by arms 9 pivotally mounted on a shaft 10 is provided between the snapping tackle 8 and the carrier of a straightbar machine and is actuated to draw a length of yarn prior to the commencement of each traverse of the carrier so that upon commencement of traverse a loose length of yarn is provided by reverse operation of the bar 9b. The yarn is thereby fed to the selvedge needles and sunk by at least one sinker without any tension being imposed on the yarn, thus avoiding drawing the extreme selvedge loop round its needle into an incorrect position. The bar 9b is operated by a cam in conjunction with the operation of the snapping tackle. In an alternative arrangement, two bars may be provided moving in opposite directions.
