994, 044. Knitting machines. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. July 28, 1961 [April 28, 1960], No. 14863/63. Heading D1C. In a knitting machine having a series of needles operated in succession to weft knit a fabric and in which variations in the knitted structure can be made, a yarn furnishing device is provided for feeding the yarn positively to the needles at a speed in relation to the machine speed and the stitch cam is spring loaded so that the needle draw can vary inversely to the yarn tension. As shown, in a superimposed cylinder machine, double ended needles 1 are transferrable by sliders 2 (Fig. 5) between cylinders 3 and 4 whose knitting systems include stitch cams 5 and 6. The yarn feeding device 7 comprises trip rollers 8, 9, roller 8 being driven at a fixed predetermined speed and the rollers being separable by Bowden cable mechanism 19 under control of a pattern device 20. At least stitch cam 5 is spring loaded having a peg 23 projecting through a slot 24 in cylinder 3 and being convected by a tension spring 25 to a peg 26 on cylinder 3. Cam 5 is guided by a vertical rib 5a engaging a groove 3a in cylinder 3. Specifications 861,879, 994,045 are referred to.
