Abstract
861,879. Knitting-machines. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Aug. 2, 1957 [May 7, 1956], No. 14010/56. Class 74 (2). Textile yarn is positively fed to the needles of a circular machine by a pair of rollers 4, 5 between which it passes without slip at a rate which bears a predetermined and fixed relation to the machine speed. The yarn passes direct to the needles from the rollers without being acted on by any take-up device. The rate at which the yarn is fed is therefore uninfluenced by any variation in the yarn tension, the movements of the loop forming elements being maintained at a value permitting the yarn to be knitted up without undue rise or fall in its tension between the needles and the rollers. The amount of yarn that is knitted into successive courses or successive parts of a course is, therefore, determined by the rate at which it is fed. The rollers may be cylindrical or, alternatively, tapered, in which latter case a guide positioned adjacent the tapered rollers is coupled to the stitch graduation cam whereby the rate of feed is varied as the cam is adjusted to vary the quality of the fabric.
