Abstract

916,465. Knitting-machines. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Aug. 7, 1959, No. 27017/59. Class 74 (2). Yarn is positively fed without slip to the needles of a circular machine during the knitting of parts of a stocking in accordance with the invention described in Specification 861,879, and wherein shaping is achieved by varying the rate of feed in proportion to the draw of the needles. In addition at desired times, the yarn is not positively fed. For this purpose the yarn is fed between positivelydriven conical rollers 7, 8 and is guided therebetween by a member 14 movable under the quality cam. The top roller 7 is mounted in a bracket 37 adapted to be raised by the action of a solenoid 40 so that during the knitting of a welt or during reciprocatory knitting of the heel and toe of a stocking the roller 7 is raised and the yarn passing between the rollers is no longer positively fed to the needles.
