Abstract
948,254. Knitting-machines. HOSIERY & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. April 7, 1960 [Jan. 8, 1959], No. 39415/58. Heading D1C. Positive yarn feeding mechanism for feeding yarns without slip to the needles of a flat bed machine comprise pairs of stepped rollers 19, 24 and 20, 25 between which yarns Y, Y1 may be selectively positioned to feed yarns at either of two speeds. This is achieved by actuation of a solenoid 46 which causes yarn guides 17, 18 to be deflected to guide the yarn between one pair of rollers whereas when the solenoid is de-energized the guide is permitted to return to an initial position whereby the yarn is guided between the rollers of the other pair. In addition solenoids 30, 31 are provided whereby at the end of each traverse of the cam carriage they are actuated to cause the top roller 24, 25 of each pair to be raised out of engagement with the yarn and lower the roller, which latter is positively driven, whereby the yarn is no longer positively fed.
