Abstract

770,408. Combustion product plant; charge pumps. ARMSTRONG SIDDELEY MOTORS, Ltd. April 12, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 11295/54. Classes 7 (1) and 7 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] A gas turbine engine, suitable for propelling a road vehicle as described in Specification 752,894, comprises a two-stroke fuel-injection engine 32 serving mainly to drive through gearing 37, 38 a dynamo and fan (not shown) and a compressor 12 of the axial flow, diagonal flow or centrifugal flow type which supplies compressed air to the two-stroke engine 32 the exhaust gases from which drive an independent useful output turbine which is non-choking throughout its working range. The four-cylinder two-stroke engine 32 has means 52 to vary its compression ratio as described in Specifications 757,639 and 752,895, and has large terminal inlet and exhaust ports and a long reverse-loop scavenging period, the inlet ports being open for between 142‹ and 152‹ of a cycle and the exhaust ports being open for between 177‹ and 187‹ of the cycle. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 752,894.
