Abstract

985,907. Gas turbine engines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 5, 1964 [March 19, 1963], No. 10871/63. Heading FIG. A gas turbine engine comprises a compressor, a first combustion chamber disposed around the compressor, a first turbine which drives the compressor, a second turbine which provides useful power, the gases from the first turbine passing to a second combustion chamber disposed around the second turbine wherein the gases are reheated before passing to the second turbine. The engine shown comprises a centrifugal compressor 1 and a first turbine 2 disposed back-toback, air from the compressor passing through duct 5 into the first combustion chamber 4 which is disposed around the compressor. Gases from the combustion chamber pass through inlet 6 to drive the turbine 2 which in turn drives the compressor, the gases then passing through ducts 13, 12 to a second combustion chamber which is disposed around a second turbine 10 which provides useful power. The gases are reheated in the second chamber and then pass to the second turbine. The inlet ducts 5 and 12 are separated from the respective combustion chambers by means of baffles 7 and 14. The engine may be used as an engine starter.
